VinylPlus launches the VinylPlus® Digital Passport Programme
The launch event for the VinylPlus® Digital Passport Programme was a success: regulators, companies, and associations participated in a fruitful learning afternoon on 23 January, in Brussels.
The Digital Product Passports (DPPs) are digital records that provides comprehensive information about a product and its entire value chain.
VinylPlus is running a pilot project to develop and test DPPs for three different plasticised PVC products: tarpaulins, cushion flooring and roofing, together with an industry consortium of three flexible PVC products manufacturers and VinylPlus partners: Beaulieu International Group, Renolit and Sioen. 3E, a company specialised in the development of Digital Products Passports, is also part of the project.
Companies are advantaged in adopting the Digital Product Passport (DPP) because it will enhance transparency, traceability, and regulatory compliance in the construction sector. By providing a harmonized system for data management, the DPP ensures smooth market access under the new Construction Products Regulation (CPR) while reducing trade barriers across the EU. As sustainability and digitalization reshape the industry, the DPP will help companies meet evolving regulatory demands, improve supply chain efficiency, and support circular economy goals — all while preparing for future integration with the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR).
During the event, participants explored why the PVC industry is proactive in implementing DPPs, discovered the results of our Pilot Project, FLEX-ID, and enquired about the legislative framework currently in place. The latter was possible thanks to the participation of Oscar Nieto Sanz, Policy Officer for Construction at the European Commission's DG GROW. Other speakers brought companies' experience and findings within the project, such as Nele Cattoor from Beaulieu International Group, on the regulatory context; Vince McSkimmings from Renolit on DPP content; Bert Groenendaal from Sioen Industries on the digital link between DPP and the product, and Emel Kasin and Lorenzo Zullo from 3E on the DPP interface.
The VinylPlus team has also developed a White Paper that can be consulted in our Resources section.
